Fire officials have not determined the cause of a fire that killed two teens early Wednesday at a home in Coventry Township.
Published: Oct. 30, 2024, 12:07 p.m.A Coventry Township woman called and reported the fire shortly after 3 a.m., officials said. She told dispatchers that the home, located in the 600 block of Cove Boulevard, was engulfed in flames and two youths were trapped inside.
Two Summit County sheriff deputies arrived first to the home, but they were met by heavy smoke and fire, which prevented them from entering. They were later evaluated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters found a boy in the back bedroom on the first floor, while the girl was found in an upstairs bedroom, fire officials said. WKYC, a news partner of cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer, reported that the teens were brother and sister, and they lived with their grandmother. The woman who escaped the home was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.
The South Summit Fire Investigation Team and the office of the State Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
