Peter Dutton called on the Prime Minister to do what is 'in the country's best interests' and abandon the Voice to Parliament referendum, describing the failure to answer questions about the scope of the Voice as 'a con job'.

The Albanese government has been under fire this week, with Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney’s claims about the scope of the Voice being disputed by members of the government’s own expert advisory group, and the Prime Minister struggling to answer simple questions on Network Ten’s The Project.

Peter Dutton accused the Albanese government of deliberately keeping details about the Voice from the Australian people. This was quickly disputed by both supporters and critics of the Voice, with Referendum Working Group member Tom Calma and Constitutional Expert Group member George Williams both pointing out that whether the Voice wanted to provide advise on Australia Day would be up to the institution itself.

“I have never seen anything like it in the last couple of decades I've been involved in politics. The con job that's going on here is unbelievable,” Mr Dutton said. “They can advise the Tax Commissioner on tax policy, they can advise the Treasurer on any element of the budget, they can advise the Defence Minister, or the Chief of the Defence Force, about defence acquisitions or where a defence base should be located,” He said.
