Peter Dutton has accused Anthony Albanese of an 'unfounded personal attack' as debate over the Voice heats up but the Prime Minister has doubled down on claims the Opposition Leader gave a speech lacking empathy.

An extraordinary war of words between Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton over the Voice has escalated with the Opposition Leader accusing the Prime Minister of"an unfounded personal attack".

"We all want a better outcome for Indigenous Australians, and I think, like in many debates, when people start to lose on the substantive issue, they go personal and I don't think it lacks any substance. I think it was an off the cuff remark by the Prime Minister. He added Mr Albanese's response to his 10-minute long speech were in stark contrast to the Labor leader's push for"a new kinder, gentler parliament".

However, Mr Albanese doubled down in a press conference on Friday, telling reporters he stood by his remarks that Mr Dutton's speech in parliament lacked empathy."Let's be clear about some of the questions that were asked in the parliament this week," Mr Albanese said.
