This December, one of the greatest modern sci-fi trilogies is coming to an explosive end. On December 18, Paul Atreides , Chani , and more will return for one last chapter as Denis Villeneuve's stunning adaptation of Frank Herbert's literature comes to a close with Dune: Part Three.

Earlier this month, the long-awaited trailer for the movie finally dropped, and it has already earned more than 35 million views on YouTube. However, this last chapter in the movie trilogy won't be the last we see of Dune, especially considering the franchise's huge success since Villeneuve's first adaptation. In 2024, Dune: Prophecy arrived as the first small-screen installment in this expanding series, taking place 10,000 years before the events of the movies. After a few weeks on air, HBO confirmed they were renewing Dune: Prophecy for Season 2, with production on the sophomore outing finally coming to an end earlier this month. But what about the future beyond Season 2? Does Dune have the potential to last for many more years yet? In a new interview, HBO boss Casey Bloys has addressed the future of the sci-fi favorite's place on the small screen, saying,"I think with all of these properties, you could see… I mean, putting aside that there are various constraints about what you can and can't do, show-by-show… but I think with any show, you can imagine various prequels, sequels, whatever." Bloys added: "But even with that, I go back to… I look at it script-by-script. You know, just because something is big IP in terms of viewership or fan base, nothing guarantees that people are going to tune in… well, maybe they'll turn in initially, but nothing guarantees the show will be good or that the audience will be big and stay big. There's no guarantees to it at all. So a nice thing to have, but you still have to develop. You still have to go through development and find shows that are worthy of investing your time and money in." Posts By Macklen Makhloghi Did 'Dune: Prophecy' Live Up to the Heights of the Movies? Starring the likes of Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen, Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen, Chloe Lea as Sister Lila, Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, and more, Alison Shapker's Dune: Prophecy received positive reviews upon release, although it failed when compared to Villeneuve's ambitious big-screen adaptations. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Season 1 earned a middling 65% average score from critics, with the consensus on the site reading,"Grounded by reliably terrific performances from Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, Dune: Prophecy lacks the spice of Denis Villeneuve's films but compensates with addictively perilous palace intrigue."
