The former Forest Green Rovers boss will take his Inverness squad for training for the first time on Thursday.

Duncan Ferguson was sitting in the dentist’s chair when he took the call to ask if he was interested in filling the vacant Inverness job.

Ferguson had been out of Scottish football for almost 30 years. He, however, has a knowledge of the lower leagues thanks to watching his son, Cameron, on-loan at Forfar Athletic from Newcastle United. Ferguson senior’s move north was the first in some time. “He is there part-time and goes to Forfar on a Tuesday and a Thursday night. I’ve been driving him. He also trains with St Johnstone and I go there on a Monday, then back to Stirling, Forfar on a Tuesday, back to Forfar Thursday, up and down to Stranraer, up and down to Liverpool - and that’s all been the last seven days.

“I know they beat us last time 4-1, so it is a big ask for us - but we want to start winning games. There are no easy games anywhere.”
