Two proposals are on the table, but there's a $21 million gap between what DUSD is offering and what the teachers' union wants. The union has said they have started looking at a cost analysis with the district.
ByClasses are in session in Dublin, but teachers will be out of the classroom as over 700 are on strike for a second day.The teachers say their demands are not unreasonable and they plan to fight until their needs are met.
But the district said granting those demands could lead to program, staffing and service cuts. Two proposals are on the table, but there's a $21 million gap between what the district is offering and what the union wants. Late Monday night, the teachers' union said they have started looking at a cost analysis with the district. They said they have an agreement with the district that Tuesday they will sit down and collaboratively create a cost analysis of current proposals as a first step toward what they call a student-centered settlement.Teachers are asking for smaller class sizes, full health care coverage, and a 3.5% raise to keep up with the cost of living. "Every year the district gets additional revenue called a cost-of-living adjustment," Dublin Teachers Association President Brad Dobrzenski said. "We are asking that be passed along to make sure they are retaining and recruiting the best educators."It offered a 2.1% raise and an incremental increase in health care coverage over three years. The district said that its current offer would mean that it would need to trim $7 million from it's budget for the 2027-2028 school year.
