MANILA - The Department of Trade and Industry on Saturday said it has given the green light for the delivery of appliances, clothing, and housewares in Metro Manila while the region and other places in the country remain under lockdown due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said they have considered housewares, clothing, and appliances as "next essentials," citing the necessity for people to replace their items during the lockdown. "'Yung dating food and disinfectants, now we have included hardware products, vet food products, clothing pati po housewares and appliances dahil baka kailangan palitan ang appliances," Lopez said in the "Laging Handa" briefing Saturday. Under old measures, the country's coronavirus task force only allowed delivery services in e-commerce for food, disinfectants and other basic necessities - items considered as "essentials" by the government.
The enhanced community quarantine has been extended in Metro Manila, nearby provinces, and other areas at high risk for the coronavirus until May 15, restricting movement of people and suspending public transport in a bid to contain the outbreak. Areas placed under lockdown but are under "low risk" were placed under general community quarantine, relaxing policies in business operations but maintaining anti-coronavirus measures such as physical distancing, sanitation and thermal checks, among others.
