Staff have been urged to use 'Derry-Londonderry' to refer to the UU campus
The decision to drop the use of the name 'Magee' for the Ulster University campus in Derry is an "abandonment of nearly 180 years of history", a DUP MLA has said.
But Belfast Live revealed at that time that staff have been urged to refer to the campus as 'Derry-Londonderry' instead. Foyle MLA Gary Middleton has hit out at the change, saying: "The decision by UIster University to drop the use of the name Magee, is an abandonment of nearly 180 years of history. It appears to have been taken with no consultation with either staff, students or the wider community.
He continued: "Corporate branding is obviously important to any organisation, but it shouldn’t have to require the airbrushing of history.”
