is estimating that more than 500 people will die in preventable crashes this Thanksgiving travel season.
“Thanksgiving is usually the busiest holiday travel time period of the whole year,” said Clay Ingram with AAA Alabama. “There are going to be a lot of crashes, a lot of fatalities, unfortunately, and that’s why we always talk about having people plan ahead.”Experts say traveling earlier in the morning, or later in the evening, will help you avoid some of that congestion.
AAA wants drivers to eliminate distractions that take their attention off the road, that means putting down the phone and getting ready at home, instead of doing hair or makeup in the car.“Distracted driving is equally as dangerous as drinking and driving, it’s just two different types of danger, but the level of danger is pretty much the same,” Ingram added. “Be sure that people keep their focus on the road at all times to help minimize those crashes.
If there is a passenger in the car, AAA recommends using them as a co-pilot, so drivers can stay focused.
