At the Midway Bar in Midvale, dozens of Thanksgiving Heroes are raising money for Thanksgiving meals. The charity is the brainchild of founder Rob Adams. He started “Thanksgiving Heroes” seven years ago.

His goal was to feed 10 families during that first year. This year will be much different, Adams says. “This year we will feed 3,000 families, and that’s 15,000 people who will be fed on that day," he said. Adams’s journey to help others began back in the state of Texas when his family was living in the back of a pick-up truck. The family was poor, and on Thanksgiving day a kind neighbor dropped by and donated a hot turkey meal for their family of five.Thanksgiving Heroes uses hundreds of volunteers to get the job done — high school sports teams, service project volunteers and even members of the military and national guard pitch in to help. The 3,000 boxes of meals are filled assembly line style. The group uses donations to purchase $20,000 worth of food from their grocery partner, Macey’s. On delivery day, the volunteers will distribute the boxes to needy families across the valley. Adams said it’s his way of paying it forward. "It’s not just about the food, it’s about delivering hope. It’s about making people feel significant when they feel like there is no hope for them,” he said.“I won’t stop, I can’t,” he laughed. “Not until they kick me out. I’m going to do this the rest of my life. It’s the best- worst idea I ever had, but I simply love it. It really is who I am. Kindness repays kindness.”Steve Wright with Mountain America Credit Union stopped by with a kind donation. If you want to help Adams raise money for next year’s Thanksgiving Heroes turkey drive, or if you would like to volunteerMACU donated $500 to Adams so he could continue to pay it forward.
