Drivers dance on the M6 to make best of total chaos after second police incident adds to hours of delays
Today has recorded hours of mayhem for motorists attempting to drive down the M6 after a police led incident added to hours of delays initially caused by a lorry fire earlier this morning .
It was later announced that the road would be closed for a number of hours and traffic was diverted. Severe delays quickly built with peak wait times hitting two hours by lunchtime. Those hours of delays were later added to after a police incident closed the M6 in both directions at J31 M55 to J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road .National Highways North West said that the major road block was due to a Lancashire Police led incident that involved a pedestrian on the network.
Deryk Lister, who was travelling Southbound at around 5pm, captured a group of impatient people making the most of the standstill by getting out of their vehicles to clap and dance to music on the M6. He added: "stuck on the M6 but at least Northbound has entertainment". Meanwhile, on the Southbound carriageway, drivers who had been stuck in the lorry fire delays vented their frustration. Twitter User QuinsLynne wrote: "Hours now stuck southbound on M6 barely moving. How has this not been cleared by now? Now a load of n**heads driving driving down the hard shoulder and blocking it. What if there is an accident? @LancsPolice #M6"
