BREAKING: Warning as stretch of M6 motorway closed after vehicle fire with long queues
A large stretch of the M6 motorway has been closed this morning after reports of a vehicle fire.
Highways bosses have issued an urgent warning and urged motorists to find alternative routes as the Friday rush-hour begins. All traffic was stopped on the southbound M6 between junction 32 for Preston and junction 31a for Ribbleton at around 6.30am.Later, all southbound carriageways were completely closed. A diversion is in place.
National Highways said as a result, two miles of queuing traffic was in place, with delays of around 30 minutes."Please be aware that the M6 Southbound at Junction 32 is currently closed due to a vehicle fire. We are working to get this reopened as soon as possible.
