An officer at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 19 responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Lorain Road near the city recreation center.
The officer found a cable company truck with a Ford Edge behind it. The truck driver said he had stopped on Lorain Road preparing to turn left into the T.J. Maxx parking lot when the Ford Edge came “in hot” and ran into the back of the work truck.
The officer’s police report notes that the Ford Edge driver smelled of an alcoholic beverage and the driver said he had “a couple of drinks.” The car driver refused to perform field sobriety tests, but breath tests revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.2, more than twice the legal limit. The driver was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, having a BAC above 0.17, and failing to maintain an assured clear distance.Officers at 5:12 p.m. on Nov. 17 responded to JCPenney regarding two shoplifting suspects that were in custody.
A store asset protection officer said she observed a 17-year-old girl picking up baby clothing items and placing them directly into a bag held by an 18-year-old man. The two then exited the store without paying for the items. Store security and police officers recovered five items worth more than $68. In addition, officers recovered merchandise that came from Macy’s that had not been paid for. The officers returned the items to Macy’s, but that store declined to press charges.
The adult male was charged with misdemeanor petty theft for the incident at JCPenney and turned over to Cleveland police on a warrant for auto theft.
