Deputies from the sheriff's Poway station conducted the checkpoint from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday in the 12700 block of Poway Road, according to Sgt. Saleem Payman.One driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving at a DUI/driver's license checkpoint in Poway that ended Saturday morning, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office reported Sunday.
Deputies from the sheriff's Poway station conducted the checkpoint from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday in the 12700 block of Poway Road, according to Sgt. Saleem Payman.Of the 545 vehicles that drove through the checkpoint, 15 were sent to secondary inspection and four drivers were evaluated for DUI. Four drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. No vehicles were towed, Payman said. "A message from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office: Don't drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We also want to remind the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving," Payman added."While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal." Funding for the checkpoint was provided to the sheriff's office by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
