4 million worth of suspected methamphetamine. A sheriff’s deputy pulled over a brown Buick on March 22 along Highway 57 for multiple traffic and equipment violations. During the stop, the deputy noticed several warning signs of possible criminal activity, along with safety concerns involving children in the vehicle who were not properly restrained. After the driver gave consent to search the vehicle, the deputy found suspicious modifications near the radiator area. A K-9 unit with the Texas Department of Public Safety was called to assist and alerted to the front bumper. Investigators said a large package wrapped in black tape and secured with bale wire was discovered hidden behind the radiator. The package contained about 18.44 kilograms — roughly 40.6 pounds — of suspected methamphetamine. Authorities estimate the drugs have a street value of more than $1.4 million. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office.
