Daily News | Drexel men’s basketball player Terrence Butler found dead inside on-campus apartment
University announced the sudden passing of men’s basketball player Terrence Butler on Wednesday. Butler, a 6-foot-7 forward from Upper Marlboro, Md., was discovered dead inside his on-campus apartment on Wednesday morning.
No cause of death was made available. Butler, a rising junior, appeared in eight games in two seasons for the Dragons as he dealt with injuries that sidelined him for long periods in both seasons. A scholar-athlete, he was named to the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in the Colonial Athletic Association last season.
A standout high school career at Bishop McNamara High in Forestville, Md., made him an all-conference selection and put Butler in consideration for a McDonald’s All-America selection in his senior season. Butler was the youngest of three children of Dena and Terrence Butler Sr. Butler’s two sisters also played college basketball, at Syracuse and James Madison.
“On behalf of the entire Drexel community, we extend our deepest sympathy to Terrence’s family, friends and teammates,” said Drexel president John Fry in a statement. “In addition to being a student-athlete, Terrence was involved in numerous activities and organizations at Drexel and was a friend to many throughout the University community.”
