The Downtown Commission is set to hold its regular public hearing on Thursday, with several significant development proposals on the agenda.
One of the key items is the plan to demolish the former United Way of Central Ohio building at 360 South Third Avenue. The Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority proposes replacing it with a five-story multifamily residential building named "The Aspire." The new structure would feature 82 units, 67 parking spaces and a fifth-floor, outdoor-covered amenity deck.
Another proposal involves the construction of a seven-story, multi-unit housing complex on the surface lot at 347 East Gay Street. This development would include a six-story, 71-unit affordable apartment building with 21 parking spaces, as well as north and south outdoor terraces. Columbus State Community College has submitted a plan to replace part of the surface parking lot at 230 Cleveland Avenue with a new, 80,000-square-foot Health Sciences building.
Additionally, the Confluence Community Authority has proposed an expansion of Lower.com Field. The plan includes a two-story addition to the east of the stadium at the Upper Concourse Level to create a club space above the loading dock parking lot. It also involves expanding the interior terraces on the north end of the stadium, adding new restroom and kitchen areas within the stadium footprint.
