Met Office senior meteorologist Alex Burkill said: “On Saturday we saw a band of heavy rain that pushed across the UK and brought more than 40 millimetres of rain across some parts of south Wales and heavy blustery showers followed. “There will be further intense downpours as we go into Sunday with the risk of hail and lightning and the strongest winds across northern parts of Scotland with severe gales and blustery showers into Monday.
He added: “It should turn drier before persistent rain on Tuesday. Whilst Sunday and Monday will be chillier than late, Tuesday will be mild again but wet and windy.” Winds will strengthen overnight, particularly across Scotland, with severe gales around coastal parts as we head into Sunday 💨
