Women from all over the United States made up the “Six Triple Eight.” One of them hailed from Dothan.

DOTHAN, Ala. - The women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion finally received their flowers in recent years for boosting the morale of soldiers during World War II. The predominately Black unit was deployed overseas in England and France with the task of clearing years' worth of backlogged mail for American soldiers with only six months to finish the task.

The “No Mail, No Morale” unit was able to get mail to soldiers within three months; a feat many believed was an impossible accomplishment.Eva Belle Edwards was born in 1919 to Lewis and Mary Etta Edwards. She was 18 years old when the family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. According to records, she volunteered for the Army and was assigned to the 6888 battalion.
