A man is believed to have fatally shot a person Wednesday afternoon on the Southeast Side whom he suspected of stealing his vehicle several miles away.

San Antonio police were called before 5 p.m. for a shooting to the 3200 block of Southeast Military Drive, where they found a man in his 30s — pronounced dead at the scene — with a gunshot wound in a Southeast Side outdoor parking lot.The deadly encounter stemmed from an earlier incident in which the suspected shooter's truck was stolen from his North Side home. After reporting it stolen, the owner tracked the truck to the parking lot using an Apple AirTag in the vehicle.
The shooter said he believed the man in the truck pulled out a firearm, prompting him to start shooting. Police said that the only shots fired came from the shooter and that they have not determined whether the dead man had a weapon. San Antonio Police Department spokesman Nicholas Soliz said the confrontation shouldn't have occurred.
