Welcome to spring, Chicago -- and with the equinox comes the chance to see one of Chicago's most talked about phenomenons: Chicagohenge. "Chicagohenge" occurs twice a year -- on the autumnal equinox and the vernal equinox -- when the rising and setting of the sun align perfectly with the city's east-west grid. The Adler Planetarium described the moment as"the time of year when nature and architecture harmoniously come together."Spring officially starts at 9:46 a.m. Friday. Chicagohenge will be visible before and after that, NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said, at sunrise and sunset, on the following days and times:Sunrise at 6:48 am and sunset at 7:06 pm Sunrise on Friday, the first day of spring, is the first chance those in Chicago will have the chance to see the phenomenon known as "Chicagohenge.""12 hours and 9 minutes of daylight," Roman said, Friday."We'll see a lot of that as we head into the weekend, with warm temperatures, too." Friday, temperatures will be a wide range, in the 50s along the lakefront to the 60s further inland. Kankakee was expected to hit 70 degrees, Roman said. The warmest temperatures of the day will occur about 2 p.m., Roman said. After that, a front will come down.Saturday will warm up, with temperatures in the high 60s and 70s, and"lots of sunshine." A front passing through Sunday could bring a few spotty showers. By Monday, temperatures will be back below average, about 45 degrees, Roman said.
