Rochester, N.Y. — Documentary filmmaker Amy Erickson presented her film “Visceral: Transforming Trauma Through Theater” at a screening on Saturday at the Memorial Art Gallery.
The documentary explores the healing power of art through the personal stories of four individuals impacted by post-traumatic stress . Through their performances, they begin the healing process by receiving support and forming connections. "It’s about four individuals who discover that by performing on stage, the trauma that’s locked in their bodies and stored there from the past, begins to come out and they find ways to find better health and they’re connected to people on stage and off," said Erickson. "The stories of the four people in 'Visceral' are essentially my story.
