Republican Caroleene Dobson, during a news conference in Mobile Monday, said she would be a supporter of the 'God-given' technology. But the issue remains a problem for her political party.

Republican congressional candidate Caroleene Dobson speaks before the media on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, inside a baby boutique for the Women's Resource Center in Mobile, Ala.Republican Caroleene Dobson made a last-minute pitch for voters Monday by reiterating her support for in-vitro fertilization, a political issue born out of the Alabama State Supreme Court that has proven problematic for the GOP this campaign season.

“When it comes to valuing life, this is truly technology that allows so many families to have children when they never though they could,” Dobson said about IVF. “I would use this platform to let people know what IVF and how it can facilitate and grow families. With more awareness and less ignorance in the process, we in Alabama can assure that Alabama is a fertility friendly state.”

Senate Democratic version aiming to establish IVF as a federal right, did not muster enough Republican support. Figures said Dobson’s support of state authority in determining abortion rights is “an extension of the extreme type of philosophy which led to IVF being called into question in the first place in Alabama.”
