Republican Caroleene Dobson of Montgomery faces Democrat Shomari Figures of Mobile in the 2nd congressional district race during the Nov. 5, 2024, general election.With less than a month to go before election day, voters in Alabama’s newly drawn Congressional District 2 face a choice between political newcomer Caroleene Dobson , a Republican from Montgomery, and Democrat Shomari Figures from Mobile.
Dobson emphasized bipartisanship as it relates to environmental issues. She said she’s committed to working with the EPA and working with Democrats. “Alabama Power has been doing something that was legal and 100% compliant with the law and the coal ash that was placed there was done so legally,” Figures said during a July mixer with business leaders put on by Coastal 150. “To then move the goalpost and expect a company to just up and reverse course and come up with a plan to move it instantly.
Fishermen in coastal Alabama have also criticized “in-bay disposal,” arguing it jeopardizes the marine life they rely on for their livelihood.
