SEREMBAN: More should be done to promote the Housewives Social Security Scheme (SKSSR), says Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar.
He said that only some 6,000 of the three million eligible women have voluntarily registered since its launch last December and added that Socso hopes to register some 500,000 women under the SKSSR this year.
"Since its launch about one and a half months ago, Socso has already paid out benefits to 37 women who had registered and this shows how important it is," he said after handing out benefits to the next of kin of four contributors who had passed on since. Each family was given RM2,000 in funeral expenses and would receive a pension of up to RM300 a month based on their eligibility.
Those who wish to contribute to the SKSSR are required to contribute RM120 per year in advance to Socso to be covered.
