Over four decades after nursing student Susan Leigh Wolfe was kidnapped and killed in Austin, police have connected DNA evidence to the man they believe is her killer. On Aug. 16, the Austin Police Department announced that DNA evidence from Wolfe's body was matched with 78-year-old Deck Brewer Jr . He is in custody at the Massachusetts Department of Correction on unrelated charges, according to a release from APD.

Around 10 p.m. Jan. 9, 1980, she was walking to a friend's house, but only made it about a block before a 1970 Dodge Polara pulled up next to her. A witness told police the driver got out of the car, wrapped Wolfe in a 'bear hug' and put a coat over her head.

This year, the Texas Department of Safety entered the profile into CODIS — the Combined DNA Index System — hitting on a possible match to Brewer in March. In July, investigators traveled to Massachusetts with a warrant for Brewer's DNA.
