After 44 years without answers, a Leander man is celebrating after a suspect was charged last week in connection to the 1980 murder of his sister.

His mother died four years ago without ever having answers, but now his family is one step closer to justice.DNA evidence was used to identify 78-year-old Deck Brewer Jr., who is in custody in Massachusetts on an unrelated crime. "What an accomplishment, to have a case solved after 44 years due to science, DNA science that didn't exist at the time of my sister's passing," Wolfe said.Austin Police Association President Michael Bullock says keeping up with contact information is just one of the many challenges when it comes to maintaining cold case files.
