Brandon Dixon sparks San Antonio Missions’ offense with historic night

Less than a week since returning to the field following an injury that sidelined him for three months, Dixon’s outburst helped San Antonio score 20 runs for the first time since 2018 in a 20-15 win against the Naturals on Wednesday at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, Ark. He became just the eighth player in Missions history to hit for the cycle — the first since Trent Grisham on July 30, 2019 — and tied the club record with nine RBI. The cycle was the second of Dixon’s career, as he also posted one with Triple-A Louisville on July 17, 2018.
At age 30, Dixon is the second-oldest player on the Missions roster. A former third-round draft pick in 2013, Dixon played in the MLB for three seasons from 2018-20, most notably leading the Detroit Tigers with 15 home runs while batting .248 across 117 games in 2019. The Missions are light on names even within the Padres’ system, especially with the club’s No. 10 prospect Korry Howell on the injured list.
