Two girls escaped from their father’s vehicle Sunday, Jan. 22, after in plunged into Lake Macatawa in Ottawa County. OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Two girls escaped from their father’s vehicle after it plunged into Lake Macatawa, Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said.
The 52-year-old father, of Otsego, has not been located as of Sunday, Jan. 22, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lt. Eric Westveer told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press. Police are still trying to determine when the crash happened, but did confirm it happened sometime overnight Sunday. The girls were able to escape the vehicle when it went into the lake in the area of Jenison Avenue and Lakeway Drive in Park Township.The girls did not know where they were, but finally knocked on a door and asked for help hours after they escaped the vehicle, Westveer said.Divers are now preparing to pull the vehicle out of the water. A tow truck is staged nearby.
