After months of speculation and a high-profile casting search, Disney’s live-action adaptation of Tangled has officially found its Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. On January 7, Walt Disney Pictures confirmed that Australian actor Teagan Croft will star as Rapunzel, with Milo Manheim cast as the charming rogue Flynn Rider, bringing the beloved animated characters into the real world for the first time.

Sydney-born actress Teagan Croft will play Rapunzel, a young princess with magical golden hair, who escapes her tower with a thief and confronts the truth about her captor. Why did Disney pause Tangled live-action? Disney temporarily paused development on its live-action remake amid a broader reassessment of its strategy. The project was reportedly put on hold following internal concerns over audience fatigue and the mixed response to recent remakes—particularly the backlash surrounding Snow White—prompting the studio to slow down production and re-evaluate creative direction and casting. Is Milo Manheim playing Flynn Rider? With Milo Manheim confirmed as the male lead, many fans were in favor of Disney’s casting. Walt Disney Studios shared images of both stars in a post on Instagram, which has amassed more than 810,000 likes and comments. “Amazing choices,” one user wrote. “Okay, I’m so happy with this,” another added. “I manifested for Milo! He is perfect for it!” said a third. However, not everyone was in support of Disney’s choices. Over on TikTok, some fans were disappointed Freya Skye didn’t get the role. Another claimed the movie would “flop hard” with Manheim and Croft at the helm. What’s Next for the Movie Live-action Tangled will be directed by Michael Gracey , with a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The movie is expected to incorporate musical elements from the original, though Disney has not yet announced a release date or full supporting cast.
