Zootopia, Disney's animated buddy cop comedy film, stars Ginnifer Goodwin playing rabbit Judy Hopps, and Jason Bateman playing Nick Wilde, a former con-artist turned Zootopia Police Officer. Even while the sequel was in theaters, the original film still did extremely well on streaming.
Due to the success of the two movies, discussions about Zootopia 3 have been sparked; however, nothing concrete has been decided about the franchise's future yet. Nevertheless, per FlixPatrol, Zootopia 2 ranks as the no. 1 movie on Disney+ worldwide, with the original film also appearing in the Top 10 at no. 9. The streaming success comes at a great time for the franchise moving forward. The franchise made roughly $2.8 billion in global box office revenue, with the original film grossing over $1 billion, and the sequel surpassing $1.7 billion. Zootopia 2 went on to become the highest-grossing animated film in Hollywood and the second highest-grossing animated film overall, with the Chinese film Ne Zha 2 holding the top spot. As of now, there is no public announcement about Zootopia 3, although there have been many conversations and implications. The end of Zootopia 2 hinted that a potential third installment could introduce another set of species when a feather landed on Judy's windowsill. This could suggest that the next movie may focus on an avian case. Zootopia stands out for the flexibility in how it created its world. The city of Zootopia, also known as Zootropolis, is divided into distinct districts with different climates, species, and themes, reflecting its motto of "In Zootopia, anyone could be anything." While the city was mostly inhabited by mammals, the follow-up introduced reptiles, whose existence was key to building Zootopia. Whether or not a third film is officially on the horizon, Zootopia and Zootopia 2 have already proven they're more than one-off successes. From theme park expansion to sustained streaming demand, audiences are clearly returning to this world in many ways, including through signature attractions , through box-office numbers, and clearly now through streaming.
