Discovery Is Only The Beginning Of Star Trek's 32nd Century Star Trek: Discovery's time jump in season 3 was an ingenious and crucial course correction that turned the inaugural Star Trek on Paramount+ series from a canonical disruptor into the vanguard of a new era of Star Trek. Discovery's 980-year leap forward fixed a problem with the first two seasons, and it gave Michael Burnham and her starship the honor of charting the new farthest point of the Star Trek timeline.
Even though Star Trek: Discovery is ending with season 5, positive signs point to the continuation of the 32nd century. The new spinoff Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is presumably going to further the 32nd-century era by focusing on the next generation of future Starfleet Officers training at the reopened academy. In truth, Star Trek: Discovery only scratched the surface of exploring the 32nd century, and Starfleet Academy can further expand it.
