Lidl celebrated on Wednesday with a grand opening including a gift card giveaway.
First in line, the Lower Paxton Township man, who prepares food for the homeless, aimed to make a beeline to the $1.49 per-pound chicken breasts to use for chicken salad sandwiches.
Grand opening festivities included a ribbon cutting shortly after 7:30 a.m. with the first 100 people in line receiving gift cards valued at $5 to $100. The discount supermarket chain is owned by Dieter Schwarz and operates more than 12,000 stores in 32 countries, including about 170 locations in nine states. The stores cram thousands of items including private label and national brands in six aisles.
One of Lidl’s trademarks, fresh produce, is located in the front of the store next to a bakery featuring about 50 items including imported French croissants and authentic New York bagels.
