Tuaran: A Daily Express check found residents continue to depend on the Sg Tuaran as a source of water, particularly during the dry season. This is despite an unpleasant stench emanating from the river which was black and greenish.

The issue came to light after footage of a heavily polluted river circulated on social media. The river flows to the Telibong Water Treatment Plant, which provides water to thousands of residents in the district, including Kota Kinabalu. Investigations into pig farm waste allegedly entering the river in Tamparuli are still ongoing.
