Turnout is down 9 percent among San Antonio voters compared to May 2021, when the mayor, council and another policing proposition were on the ballot.

But only San Antonio voters can decide Proposition A, which would amend the city charter to decriminalize abortion and low-level marijuana possession, ban police chokeholds and no-knock warrants and create a “justice director” at City Hall.

Districts 9 and 10, which are on the North Side and lean conservative, have seen the highest turnout of the city’s 10 council districts and made up a third of the early vote in the municipal election.Prop A supporters denounce fear-mongering
