Deshaun Watson and Cade York have one final chance to tune things up vs. the Chiefs.
Reid told reporters here on Wednesday that Patrick Mahomes and his ones “may get a little bit of time, and then the twos and threes will take it from there.”
Watson has played only once in the Browns first three preseason games — the opening drive against the Commanders in which he drove 67 yards in 12 plays to the 1. With Nick Chubb and Jerome Ford both on the sidelines, the Browns were unable to punch it in on two tries from there. The last time Watson faced a team other than his own — the Eagles during joint practices in Philadelphia — he threw some interceptions but explained he was working on things in those practices that aren’t evident to the casual observer. Specifically, he was trying different runs against their 5-2 front.
As always, York rebounded in practice, closing out the week with a 6 for 6 performance on Thursday, including the final kick of 52 yards.“It’s hard to tell the offensive players that you’re kicking field goals, but we’ll see how the game goes,” Stefanski said. “But obviously, we want to get work for all of our guys.”
