The New York Jets face the New York GIants in the preseason finale Saturday night.
But is it a good idea for the Jets to trot Rodgers out there? and just over two days before the season starts, where do things stand?History vs. Giants
But Jets coach Robert Saleh can be mindful of the past and not keep his guys out there any longer than necessary. If Rodgers and the starters can get points on the board on the first drive, or move the ball well, take that confidence to the regular season with your future-hall-of-fame quarterback watching the rest of the game from the bench. The Jets have put their full trust in Rodgers and allowed him to heavily influence their offense for a reason: he knows what he’s doing out there.
They have a clear No. 1 receiver in Garrett Wilson. But most Super Bowl contenders in recent years have had a better No. 2 situation than the Jets have right now: last year’s Eagles had A.J. Brown and DaVonta Smith; the Bengals nearly won the Super Bowl the year before with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and the Rams team that beat them had Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham, Jr.
Saturday night will be a good test to see if the Jets can move the ball against a defense that they won’t have faced at all before the game. And with a tough schedule to start the season — the Jets face the AFC East favorite Bills in Week 1, travel to face a NFC contender in Dallas in Week 2, before hosting the Super Bowl champion Chiefs in Week 4, and the Super Bowl runner up Eagles in Week 6 — they need all the confidence they can get heading into the start of the regular season.
The Jets o-line is going to have to go through some level of growing pains together. Ideally, they would have worked some of the kinks out on the field during camp and the preseason. Now their season could depend on how quickly they’re able to learn on the fly and minimize the growing pains in the games that countBecton was the biggest question mark on the roster heading into training camp.
