Descendants and a Utah researcher have been working to remember and honor one Buffalo soldier and help his family learn about him.
The seated people are the five offspring of James Gordon McPherson. The wives are standing behind their husbands.
She said when McPherson returned from serving in the Spanish American War it was in 1897, and got an early release from his military duties. He lived a full life as a Buffalo Soldier, married twice, became a father, to businessman turned evangelist. “He was much older than my grandmother because from what I understand, my father and his siblings — my grandfather was in his 60’s when they were born."All of James' kids are paving a way for themselves, just like their father.
For Robinson-Hill, having the opportunity to help McPherson’s descendants learn more about his life tops the list of cool history moments she’ll never forget.
