Shannen Carey, prosecuting, told the court: “A witness said she was driving along Kirkstone Road West when she saw a black BMW come out of Ford Lane. It drove at her on the wrong side of the road. The witness slowed down but the defendant continued to drive towards her. The witness came to a stop but the BMW continued driving and hit the front of her Nissan car. She then swerved and hit a blue Peugeot.
The lowest reading was 151 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35mg. Copplestone had no previous convictions. ''She has attended Aspire [drug and alcohol service] as well. She is not coming to court with a cap in hand demanding that the court help her. Chairman of the bench, Brian Wilsony, told her: “I do not need to tell you how serious this matter is before the court today. It has passed the custody threshold because you were involved in an accident and the manner of your driving on the day.
