Utah County Sheriff's deputies seize nearly 16,000 fentanyl pills amounting to roughly $100,000 during Juab County traffic stop. A 42-year-old woman was arrested in Juab County after authorities found nearly 16,000 fentanyl pills in her vehicle during a traffic stop.

The arrest was made by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Drug Interdiction Team, just 40 minutes into their first day of operations. On Saturday, Jan. 26, a deputy observed a black vehicle speeding northbound on I-15 near milepost 210 and initiated a stop. Upon approaching the driver, the deputy noted signs of extreme nervousness. The driver admitted to having a suspended license and stated the vehicle belonged to the passenger, identified as Yolanda Marcie Leon. As the deputy questioned Leon, he noticed inconsistencies in the pair’s statements, prompting him to request a K-9 officer. The K-9 alerted the deputy to the presence of illicit substances, leading to a search of the vehicle.Authorities found a white grocery bag under the front passenger’s seat containing a duct-taped package holding over 15,000 fentanyl pills, with an estimated street value of $100,000. Drug paraphernalia was also discovered throughout the vehicle. Leon reportedly admitted to transporting the pills from Las Vegas to Utah in exchange for payment. She also confessed to hiding the package during the traffic stop. While en route to jail, deputies said Leon attempted to hide drug paraphernalia and fentanyl pills in the back of the patrol car, which were later seized. At the Juab County Jail, a bag of methamphetamine fell from her shirt. Leon, who has multiple prior drug convictions, was booked on felony charges of drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of contraband in a correctional facility, obstruction of justice, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
