Denali Montessori Elementary is marking its 75th anniversary this weekend with a celebration for families, alumni and staff.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Denali Montessori Elementary is marking its 75th anniversary this weekend with a celebration for families, alumni and staff. The school has served generations of Anchorage families since its founding in 1950, Principal Deana Beck said.
“We have grandparents who come in to pick up their grandchild and talk about when they came to school here,” she said.Parent Cyrese Gorrin said the anniversary recognizes the school’s role in Anchorage. “It is our 75th anniversary. Denali has been an institution in Anchorage and we’re really excited to be able to celebrate it,” Gorrin said.“I was like, ‘wow, this has been here a long time.’ So, I’m sure that a lot of good students have been here,” Miller said. “That gives them examples of what to do and what not to do and what changes to make to the school.” Max Cason, an alumnus who attended the school eight years ago, said the collaborative approach shaped his education. “It’s much more student to student, and it’s much more collaborative, and it’s less lecture based,” Cason said. “That time of just learning how to work with people and facilitate functional teams was invaluable.”“I’m hoping that it’s great for people who’ve been our alumni and people who are students here, is that they realize the importance of our history and our future,” she said.‘Every fiber of me wishes I could change it all’: Veteran musher posts tribute to dog who died during IditarodJudge denies bail for Anchorage attorney feds say was part of ‘cartel’ accused in federal drug case
