by CAITLYN FROLO | The National News DeskSEATTLE, WASHINGTON - JUNE 19: Delta Airlines planes are seen parked at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on June 19, 2024 in Seattle, Washington. The airport covers 2,500 acres and has three parallel runways.
It is the primary international airport serving Seattle and its metropolitan area in Washington state. Delta Air Lines announced Tuesday it would be suspending airport escorts and red coat services for Congress members and staff because of the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown. The airline told CNBC that due to the impact on resources from the "longstanding goverment shutdown, Delta will temporarily suspend specialty services to members of Congress flying Delta. Next to safety, Delta’s No. 1 priority is taking care of our people and customers, which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment,” the airline told the outlet. However, Delta's Capital Desk, a reservation line for members of Congress and staffers, remains open at this time. With the suspension in place, Congress members will receive the same treatment as other passengers, based on their Sky Miles status. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., applauded the move, writing in a post on X, "We applaud @Delta. If the Senate can't get it together and fund TSA, let them feel what every other American is feeling. Stand with the people you're supposed to serve."It's ridiculous to see them used as political chips. We're outraged. Over 90% of the American public supports these people getting paid. Ask our folks in Washington to do their job and get our people paid. They can do it," Bastian said.sending Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers“Home Improvement” star Zachery Ty Bryan will be serving another 19 months in prison in Oregon after admitting to three probation violations.Investigators in Iowa believe they may have found the person responsible for the 2011 slaying of realtor Ashley Okland.Police believe the dog had been outside for more than 24 hours, exposed to the elements. The 2023 shooting death of a pregnant woman on her way to work in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood is again drawing attention to Washington’s “born alive” rule aKing County prosecutors are seeking to have a teenage suspect charged as an adult in connection with the murders of two high school students.
