'Seeing Ava be an advocate for herself is a huge part of that experience and we really want to teach Girl Scouts to stand up for what they believe in.'
The Gold Award is a part of the Highest Awards program, a national program representing a Girl Scout’s time, leadership, creativity, and effort dedicated to improving her community. The Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland will recognize 17 Central Ohio girls with the Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn.
All the 2023 recipients will receive their awards during the Highest Awards Ceremony on Sunday, June 11 at the Idea Foundry in Columbus. WSYX's Kate Siefert will emcee the event. Breaking down barriers was one of the factors Ava said contributed to her Gold Award project, which was titled, 'Ava said her project was inspired by her younger sister. She said her sibling was treated unfairly at a robotics competition because she was female.
