The EPIRB, believed to belong to 77-year-old Maurice Saunderson, was found among debris washed up near Milyeannup, east of Augusta and around 330 kilometres south of Perth."A number of items believed to be linked to Mr Saunderson's vessel were located on the shore by a member of the public," a WA Police spokesperson said.Mr Saunderson had completed similar sailing trips to Busselton in the past.
Mr Saunderson has been missing since December 29 when he left Emu Point Marina in Albany on a solo sailing trip to Busselton.Friends and family of the experienced sailor reported him missing to police on January 10, concerned by the lack of contact.The volunteer who found the EPIRB told the ABC that he cross-checked its identification number with the one registered to Mr Saunderson through the Australian Marine Safety Authority.
