No arrests have been made in the killing of the 39-year-old man, who grew up in Maine and struggled with drug addiction.

Errol Staples’ body was found July 8 in the 100 block of Linden Street in the city’s Allison Hill neighborhood, according to Fran Chardo, Dauphin County district attorney.

Chardo said Staples was seen alive and with several other people at the USA Fried Chicken restaurant on Derry Street not long before his body was found. He appeared “disoriented and visibly under the influence,” Chardo said. Staples grew up in Maine, according to his longtime friend Ryan Elwell. He said they were “blood brothers,” who literally exchanged blood as kids, and spent hours outside riding bikes all over the Brunswick area. They both liked practical jokes, fishing and riding Staples’ moped.

“You grow up drinking and smoking and he got pulled into that,” Elwell said. “A lot of us did. We thought it was cool.” “Errol was a caring person, very considerate and thoughtful,” Elwell said, adding that Staples loved movies, video games and “mystical” things, including pondering the workings of the universe. He was a loyal partner to the women he dated.
