Since 2019, Kevin Erdmann has been one of Screen Rant's Senior Staff Writers, covering all kinds of Superhero and Star Wars media with Easter egg breakdowns, theory pieces, breaking news, and more. A huge Star Wars & MCU fan, Kevin also loves Batman (because he's Batman), but could talk for hours about why Nightwing is DC's greatest hero.

Beyond being incredibly fun and one of the most popular games right now, Marvel Rivals is packed with some impressive lore from Marvel Comics. However, the debut of Deadpool has brought the game some very cool connections to none other than DC's Batman.

The latest addition to Marvel Rivals' impressive roster of playable characters, Deadpool is Rivals' first three-in-one character with the ability to play any role: Vanguard, Duelist, or Strategist. Personality-wise, Rivals' Deadpool is as meta and fourth-wall breaking as one would expect, including a line referencing one of his most recent comic adventures with Batman himself. Marvel Rivals' Deadpool Has A Great Voice Line About Batman When talking to Moon Knight ahead of a round starting, Deadpool can't help but find the Fist of Khonshu familiar:Deadpool: “Whoa, deja vu. I teamed up with a guy just like you, not so long ago. Sweet cape, fancy gadgets, grim demeanor, long pointy ears...While his name is not directly said, Moon Knight obviously echoes the classic line from DC's Dark Knight, and Deadpool is clearly describing DC's Batman. Likewise, the recent team-up he mentions is 2025's Batman/Deadpool crossover comics, which saw Marvel and DC joining forces for a pair of one-shots for the first time in over two decades. Furthermore, Deadpool's conversation with Moon Knight directly ties to a specific moment in DC's Batman/Deadpool #1. Marvel Rivals Flips One of the Best Moments From DC's Batman/Deadpool Crossover The exchange in Marvel Rivals is a fun reversal of a hilarious conversation between Bruce Wayne and Wade Wilson in DC’s Batman/Deadpool #1. Acknowledging the similarities between Deadpool and Deathstroke/Slade Wilson, Batman wonders if Wade has a history with the mercenary or is perhaps a variant of the classic DC foe. Insulted by the comparison, Deadpool fires back with a comment that he's not pointing out The Dark Knight's similarities to Marvel's Moon Knight or Nighthawk. It's pretty funny to see the clear homage to this exchange in Marvel Rivals, another testament that the game's developers are indeed true comic book fans who love and respect the source material. Regardless, it's also just super cool to have a Batman reference in a Marvel game. 8/10 Marvel Rivals Like Follow Followed Third-Person Shooter Action Multiplayer Systems OpenCritic Reviews Top Critic Avg: 78/100 Critics Rec: 84% Released December 6, 2024 ESRB T For Teen // Violence Developer NetEase Games Publisher NetEase Games Engine Unreal Engine 5 10 Images Close
