A passenger plane and a military helicopter collided over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan National Airport, resulting in a catastrophic crash with no survivors.

On Sunday, United States officials held a press conference to provide updates on the recovery efforts following a deadly plane crash in Washington, D.C. The crash occurred on Wednesday evening when a passenger-filled American Airlines plane, approaching a runway at Ronald Reagan National Airport, collided with a Black Hawk military helicopter. The impact sent at least 60 people into the Potomac River, with no survivors recovered so far.

A video captured what appeared to be an explosion as the plane descended onto the runway. Since Wednesday's incident, search and rescue operations have been ongoing. Crews and rescuers from multiple agencies have been working tirelessly to lift the fallen plane and its wreckage from the river, searching for more victims. During these operations, officials reported finding additional victims who were taken to the medical examiner's office. As of the press conference, at least 55 victims had been identified from the plane crash. Meanwhile, a Metropolitan Police Department diver suffered from hypothermia during the search operations and was transported to a local hospital for examination.
