Border Patrol agents found four bodies in the desert near the U.S.-Mexico border on Monday.
The bodies were discovered between the 5600 block of McNutt Road and Bi-National Avenue, near the Santa Teresa border crossing, the Sunland Park Fire Department said.El Paso Times reported that the deaths are being investigated, and that since May, about 20 deaths have been reported in the Sunland Park area, which has experienced multiple days with temperatures of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
'In the fiscal year 2024, more than 656 humanitarian rescues have been carried out in the El Paso Sector, Customs and Border Protection reported.Last month, migrant crossings fell to a three-year low after President Joe Biden essentially closed the U.S. border to asylum-seekers, bar a few exceptions.About 84,000 migrants crossed the southern border without authorization in June, according to preliminary Customs and Border Protection data obtained by CBS News.
