DC Comics just revealed a new version of Doctor Fate, who is teaming up with the Justice Society of America in a timeline set in the far future. The New Golden Age 1 is taking aim at DC's past, present, and future.
Spoilers for The New Golden Age #1 by DC ComicsDC Comics has revealed a brand-new version of Doctor Fate and the Justice Society of America, which is operating as the superteam in the far future. In The New Golden Age #1, readers are introduced to the heroes of 3022, who, after finding the original JSA headquarters in a world where New York was seemingly destroyed, meet with a villain who immediately tests their powers in a deadly confrontation.
The Justice Society of America is the first superteam in DC Comics history, as the Golden Age heroes from Earth-Two predate the Justice League of America as the first collection of heroes fighting together in comic books. Debuting in All Star Comics #3 by Gardner Fox and Everett E. Hibbard, the original roster consisted of Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Spectre, Alan Scott's Green Lantern, Sandman, Atom, Hourman, and Jay Garrick's Flash.
Don't Get Too Attached To The New JSA Unfortunately for the future JSA, they meet a mysterious villain who goes on a murder spree against the team. After the new Doctor Fate reveals she can't see the future anymore, her neck is snapped in half. The time-traveling villain then uses his powers to incinerate the other two members easily, smiling as he says, "so falls another JSA." It's quite a gruesome scene.
Given the time-traveling shenanigans of the Time Masters and The New Golden Age taking place over thousands of years and featuring different iterations of the JSA over different generations, the villain who killed the future team could be practically anyone. It seems the mysterious bad guy is hunting the different teams of the Justice of Society of America and won't stop until every version of the group is dead - including the future JSA and the new Doctor Fate.
