The driver at the centre of a horrific crash that killed five people in a beer garden in regional Victoria is an insulin-dependent diabetic who required immediate assistance at the scene, his lawyer says. Five people were killed and another five were injured when a BMW mounted the kerb and ploughed into patrons dining at the Royal Hotel beer garden in Daylesford on Sunday.
Daylesford driver questioned by police two days after Royal Hotel crash. The 66-year-old driver from Mount Macedon remains in hospital and was interviewed by police there on Tuesday. Lawyer Martin Amad described his client as a “family man” with no criminal history and noted he returned a negative blood alcohol reading following the crash. “What happened in Daylesford on Sunday the 5th of November was a terrible tragedy,” Amad said on Wednesday.
